In Pauls letter to the Church at Philippi, his objective was to be a faithful ambassador for Christ, and would indeed continue on, faithful in battle.. He esteemed nothing of his own, and was adamant about leaving his past behind him. Similarly,John Paul Jones had the same tenacious spirit, He would forge ahead. He wasnt going to hunker down and quit. He wasnt going to allow his enemy to steal the victory and would not stop short of winning the battle; and that he did against the British. We too can have that same spirit of perseverance, doing so by continuing on, not quitting until weve fulfilled our own personal ambitions. And like Paul, perhaps Captain Jones had the same spirit within him when he proclaimed If fear is cultivated it will become stronger, if faith is cultivated it will achieve mastery.
