Manteo: Outer Banks History Center Celebrates 25th Anniversary With Call for Submissions MANTEO, N.C. -- To celebrate its 25th anniversary, the Outer Banks History Center is partnering with the Dare County Arts Council to present an art exhibit, An Eye for Art, a Heart for History, showcasing the many aspects of the heritage and history of the Outer Banks and surrounding areas through a broad spectrum of artistic media and expression. Artist submissions are being sought. Were inviting artists to submit works that embody a personal sense of appreciation for our unique culture and history for display in the History Center Gallery, said Curator and Site Manager KaeLi Schurr. Awards will be presented in five categories: Best in Show, Peoples Choice, Excellence Award for Best Depiction of Theme, Excellence Award for a Two-dimensional Piece, and Excellence Award for a Three-dimensional piece. The show is open to artists from any location. Membership in the Dare County Arts Council or Friends of the Outer Banks History Center is not a requirement. For a single entry fee of $25, up to three works can be submitted. Works must be original but unlike other shows and in the spirit of honoring the past, works do not have to have been created within the past year or two. Entries should be accompanied by an Artists Statement (75 - 200 words) that puts entries in context and briefly explains the tie to Outer Banks regional history. An Eye for Art, a Heart for History opens Feb. 28, 2014, and will be on display through Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2014, in the History Center Gallery in Manteo. All are invited to the opening reception, Feb. 28, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., hosted by the Friends of the Outer Banks History Center. It is free and open to the public. Come out and vote for your favorite entry and congratulate all the award winners. The Outer Banks History Centers holdings include tens of thousands of historical photographs, along with maps, magazines, books, posters, pamphlets, and original works of art encompassing every topic of Outer Banks history. We invite artists to tap this resource for inspiration as you create your entries for this show or any others in the future. Digital files depicting proposed submissions for An Eye for Art, a Heart for History are due by Dec. 2. The show will be juried; submission does not guarantee placement in the exhibit. All works must be for sale, and a portion of the proceeds will go to the Friends of the Outer Banks History Center and the Dare County Arts Council.
