Research in the nursery industry and through university Extension programs has proven autumn to be the better time to plant. Autumn offers warm soil temperatures and generally good soil moisture. Fall planted trees, shrubs and perennials can “ease” into their new surroundings without the shock of growing during high heat and drought. This more stable growing environment encourages root development this fall, meaning a rapid period of top growth and better blooms next spring!
