Many Tikiphiles who are first-time visitors to the Hawaiian islands have been surprised at the lack of Tiki bars in a part of the world one would assume would be filled with them. Although some kind of tropical atmosphere (and variation of a Mai Tai) abounds at almost every hotel and restaurant in Hawaii, the Tiki bar really is a romanticized mainland creation, starting with the original Don the Beachcombers in not-so-aloha Hollywood, California. However, this is not to say that you cant find some great Tiki atmosphere and cocktails in Oahu and the other Hawaiian islands.
