Many are wondering what we are planning to do with the retired engine #4621, which engine #4611 just replaced in our fleet...Since Hurricane Sandy struck and damaged our station, equipment, and trucks we have been fortunate enough to have received so many donations. Not only did we receive monetary donations, but we were lucky enough to be the recipients of a donation of an engine (#4631) from the Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund. It is now time for us to pay it forward to someone in need. We will be donating our Engine #4621 to a fire company who is in dire need of a fire engine in Garland, Alabama. This fire company currently does not have an operable fire truck or medical response car, their turnout gear and various hand tools were ruined from poor storage conditions, and their previous leadership caused the company to lose funds and members. This fire company has limited to no extra funds to replace any equipment and trucks. Recently, the leadership in the fire company has changed and the community is rallying to save the fire company. We could not be more proud and excited to be able to pay it forward to this company by giving them Engine #4621 through the Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund. Members from the Garland, Alabama Fire Department will be at our station this Tuesday to accept our donation and to drive it down to Alabama. Jetty, a local surfing company, has agreed to donate some funds to go towards their fuel costs to drive the truck down to Alabama. Rick McDonough, owner of Typestries Sign & Digital and a firefighter at our Station, put new graphics seen in the photos on the truck. Surf City Volunteer Fire Company has donated some equipment to go on the truck and we will be supplying some tools and equipment as well. Our Deputy Chief/Chief Engineer Rick Traut has put so much time into making sure the truck is in good working condition for them by replacing things such as batteries and by organizing this with the Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund. Thank you to our members who have assisted Deputy Chief Traut as well. We will be sure to post pictures when the firefighters from Alabama come to our station.
