Many have asked “Why did you all go to DC?” for those of you who care to read this, here is the short/long break down: The Greater Las Cruces Chamber has a group of people comprised of current board members, past board members, a representative from NASA/Jacobs and MVEDA. We pay our own way and travel to DC once a year to speak to our Pentagon Officials and thank them for WSMR which brings in 2.3 million dollars a day in economic impact to our community; we also ask how we can help to keep our post there. Short education on WSMR; it’s one of 2 sites in America that is a no fly zone area, the other being the White house. Our nation’s security rests on WSMR testing and is our national treasure. Then we go to the Hill and meet with our Congressman and Senators to also lobby for WSMR regarding issues that may hinder testing and bring issues to the table that affect you and your businesses, such as the Organ Mountain Monument, access to Spaceport America which will bring tourism to our city, as well as local issues. We meet with the US Chamber and use their resources to help us on issues locally. Lastly, we meet with very large organizations that are looking to locate in DA and bring 100’s of jobs to our area.
