Many have asked what happened to Logan Wilson last week. Here is the story: We had been having Logan treated with Allergy induced Asthma since he was told by a specialist in Clarksville at the age of 6 that he had a mold allergy that makes him sensitive to Wheat, Eggs, Peanuts, and Milk. We avoid those foods and he had an inhaler and a nebulizer that would help if he got exposed to any of those things or if he got an upper respiratory sickness. Logan’s lungs began to get weak after a diagnosis of Strep Throat earlier this month. Last Monday 3-24-14 he stayed home from school with breathing problems that caused him to get increasingly weak, sleepy, and nauseous. Little did I know his oxygen level was slowly dropping. Rykers mom came by when she got off of work and (as a nurse) checked his breathing by listening to his lungs. Her observance of him led her to suggest that we leave right away for the ER. Daddy Ryker arrived home at that moment and we headed out quickly. The ER staff was quick to get him in as soon as I told them he was having an asthma attack. They quickly got him onto the Bi-PAP machine to help him breath. He received lots of meds through an IV and they quickly made the decision that they could not give him all the specialized help that he needed here in Murray. So they asked which Childrens Hospital we preferred. We said whichever one accepts him the quickest or whichever they deemed appropriate. As soon as we knew a doctor at Vanderbilt had accepted him as a patient and that a room was available and be being prepared for Logan, Ryker and I headed on to Nashville. We left Logan in the hands of the ER staff and both of our families at 8:30 pm and we arrived in Nashville at 10:30 pm. As we were driving down Children’s Way heading to the parking garage I heard the booming sound of the Helicopter in the sky and I exclaimed, “That’s our son.” I started snapping pictures of the HIM in the sky. That was a rough Monday night for him. He stayed in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) on 5th floor for that night, all of Tuesday, and until 2:00 pm on Wednesday. He went without food for 40 hours and was able to finally eat some peaches on Wednesday morning! By Wednesday afternoon he was off of Oxygen support long enough at a time, without his oxygen saturation level dropping below 88, so they let him move up to a regular room on 6th floor. He stayed in that room on Wednesday evening, all of Thursday and part of Friday. He was discharged from the Vanderbilt Childrens Hospital on Friday, March 28, 2014 at 2:00 pm. He is still on several medications, a few of which he is tapering off of. He is doing well with only some minor wheezing that dissipates when he uses his inhaler every 4 hours. We are watching him closely and making sure he is not around smoke, too much pollen and mold, or the foods that he is sensitive too. He cannot afford to have an asthma attack at this time. He needs to heal and we pray that he NEVER has another asthma attack like that! We are so proud of Logan through all of this. He used to be afraid of needles and hospitals. He is not anymore. He would rather not see another needle or a hospital room for awhile, but he knows it takes them sometimes to save a life. We will be having a doctor’s appointment next week with Logan’s pediatrician here and then traveling to Vanderbilt for allergy testing and meeting with specialists several times in the coming months to find out why all this happened and to make sure it never does again. I have to mention this. At one point, when Logan got out of Intensive Care he asked, Why is nobody coming to see me. He only had 3 people visit that were not famiy. We explained that we were very far from home and that they didnt have helicopter to ride in to quickly come see him in the middle of a school/work week. Then we would pull up Facebook on my phone and show him all his Prayer Warriors! Thank you for the encouraging followers AND PRAYER! We love and appreciate you more than you will ever know!!!
