Many issues have been raised concerning the causes of youths’ immorality in our society today. Several writers have attributed the present wave of indiscipline or anti-social behaviors among our youths to the fact that western education with its cultural values wholesome, the impact of which is beyond measure. They argue that western civilization has brought about a break down of our social and moral fabric which has left the youths to grope in a network of social and moral predicament. Anifowose (1981) in a study sample of 1700 people stated that 1638 agree that home, school, mass media, society and other external factors contribute immensely to youths’ immorality. Odey(1981) agrees with this and went further to stress the fact that parents do neglect their roles. This fact according to him is evident in the way students are let loose during holidays and are not engaged in meaningful activities e.g. extra mural studies, clean up exercises, parental introduction to family members, instilling societal norms, engaging in church activities and of course community service instead are left free for the nature to take its course. To lay the blame on them to him is a logical convenience rather than a sober reflection on their predicaments. What parents fail to understand is that neither prayer nor exorcism can stop smallpox, vaccination will. Once they are above eighteen years don’t even waste your precious time training them because nature shall have taken its course! To pretend that you are too busy is to dig a grave for them one by one but who wants to give birth, nurture and kill? Not even a mad man would wish to! Please let us be part of them in all levels of development; social, economic and religious spheres. If we miss one among the three they are likely to become reckless and make decisions acquired from the filthy environment! The point we have to note here is that, we do not have to fold our arms and see this wave of immorality being engaged in by our youths. We must save the young from becoming delinquents; we must all feel for them, understand their predicaments and have a glimpse of their overwhelming crisis. This positive attitude if embarked upon would help us to explore an effective cure. Protracted indictments of the youths will not avail, us, neither could apathy and callous indifference to their plight bring about any solution. Thus, the role of Guidance programme in curbing youths ‘immorality and instilling of moral values in them comes immediately to one’s mind. This is so because one of the cardinal aims of Guidance is to make individuals become aware of themselves and their environment so that they will live a happier life in the society they happen to have found themselves.
