Many ‘new agers’ and the masons in particular have the view that becoming spiritual means leaving ‘dense matter’ and becoming aware of the ‘divine plan’ in the ‘ethereal realm’. This article argues that to this extent, they and we suffer from the Western malaise of ‘displaced concreteness’.
