Many of our followers frequently claim that some Americans deserve to be investigated by the International Criminal Court, notably George W. Bush, who was president during the US invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan. But did you know that the US is shielded from ICC prosecution because the country has not signed the Rome Statute? And the court has no right to directly investigate crimes committed by US citizens in non-signatory countries. Although the UN Security Council can mandate the court to investigate a non-signatory country, the US, as a permanent member to the Security Council, has the power to veto any decision thats proposed. So, as the system is currently set up, it is practically impossible for the ICC to prosecute US citizens. What do you think of the US’s justice shield?
