Many of you may not know, but back when I played golf, I was also Poet Laureate of NC. The following composition stole that title from none other than the famous artist with words, Stephen Payseur: Golf By James Michael Owen I smack the ball,then watch it fly, From haz to bunk it goes. Where it shall land, I cant predict. Perhaps to where the river flows. \Each week I try to venture forth, To where Nick and Tig got fame. But compared to the greats I really feel Only slightly more than lame. \Neither wood nor iron can seem to change, The way I strike the sphere. From left to right, but never straight, Like a stroll while drinking beer. \Try as I might I cannot play, But daily with clubs and stogey, To the course I will venture forth Praying Lord, give me a bogey
