Many of you may remember back in August this year when I was hospitalized for a blood clot in my left lung, a Pulmonary Embolism (PE). The other day, through follow-up appointments, I learned that Ive been diagnosed with Pulmonary Hypertension, aka Hemochromatosis. This was the cause for the clot. Hemochromatosis is a blood disorder, causing your body to naturally produce too much iron. The ventricle in my left lung is also dialated to an abnormal size. When there is too much iron in your blood, it causes depletion of oxygenated blood. Less oxygen causes the blood to become sedentary, so that when it flows through the veins, it creates turbulence. Turbulent blood flow causes the iron-rich blood platelets to stick together, formulating a clot. Also, having an enlarged pulmonary ventricle means the intensity of my pulse is stronger. So if the inside lining of my veins & arteries ever have a plaque build-up, making them more rigid, when the iron rich blood pulsates through my veins at an intensified velocity, it can create a vein rupture or clog, meaning an aneurism or stroke. Im thankful to have this information so that I can make changes within my diet & lifestyle by eating foods with little or no iron, and exercising more to reduce my risk of having a stroke. God has placed some wonderful medical professionals in my life to tell me these things, and I am thankful beyond words the grace He has given me. Hemochromatosis is a serious blood disorder and can be fatal if not properly treated. A better diet & more active lifestyle can help reduce iron levels in your blood if your body produces too much. Learn the signs your body may be telling you to help avoid a hospital stay like mine! Love you guys, have a great day!
