Many of you will recognize this name from the instructional videos we posted here earlier this year: KJ Krogh July 8 at 10:59am So, a fun update: Ara, my 18 ur old precious girl, was lame for about 2 wks. This happened after I did some major bar work on her. Ive been trying to undo what happened over the course of 2+ yrs of other farriers doing her trimming. I was so discouraged when she came up lame and I was ready to quit feet all together (which I cant do since Im one of 2 hoof care providers in town and the other is currently laming horses). Btw, this mare and her foal are kindred spirits to me. I left her be for the couple weeks thinking maybe I misread her hoof and just ended up too deep in the wrong place or something. Finally, about ten days ago, I said F this and grabbed my tools. I ended up with my pocket knife at the line where it looked like the dirt line had been pushed up by the bar. I pulled the frog away from the dirt line and whalah! My knife tip pop over a ledge and behind the bar! This ledge was in a point and poking into her frog! I used my pocket knife and pulled the sharp ledge out of the frog and smoothed it down. I set her foot down and took her to the grass and lunged her... She was about 70% more sound then 20minutes prior when I brought her out! Yesterday, she was about 95% sound, and the only reason I dont say 100% is because her shoulder is stiff from limping on it and I havent worked with her since the hoof work (i went on vacation). Im so happy to have such wonderful support here! and thank u so much Valerie Gottschalk for keeping me going!
