Many of your already know from Facebook that my last remaining grandparent, Bill Westervelt, passed away yesterday at the age of 98. At 98, things had slowed down, but he was still in full command of his thoughts and memories, and he still could get around a bit, with use of a walker. He had a great quality of life for 98, in no small part because of the dedication of his five kids. For them, its been a tough week, but now hes reunited with Janet, he can hear everything everybody says to him, and he doesnt have to worry about getting his bills paid, luminaries lit, or sticks picked up from the yard. My boss passed along condolences today and I told her how well he had aged, all things considered, and I told her I wished that same end stage of the journey for everyone I love. Its hard not to cry about our loss, but it is also easy to smile, if not even laugh, because of all the fond memories. Thanks to everyone who has passed along a kind word for any of us. Thanks especially to my wife Cindy Kendall Strovel for her support this week. Well all miss you, Brud, and thank you.
