Many people envisaged that the discovery of oil in commercial quantities along the coastal shores of the Western Region would bring an abrupt change in the lives of the residents and people of the oil mining communities. Sadly however five or so years down the lane nothing really shows that the people are better than they were before the discovery of oil in commercial quantities. The irony of the situation is that prices of goods and food commodities have over the last few years skyrocketed to record levels. The cost of accommodation particularly in the twin city of Sekondi-Takoradi inches up with each passing day. Truly I am saddened with this cold reality with my encounter once more with my home region.
