Many people have acknowledged the existence of the sock gnome, the little bugger responsible for stealing mates and leaving so many socks unpartnered and wondering til the end of their days, alone and gathering dust behind dresser drawers where they eventually become lodged (though not forever and uncannily lost). Fewer people have dared to speak openly about an even more sinister force at work whose mercilessness has frankly nearly driven me to establish a support group...that scourge of toolboxes and sewing kits everywhere: the measuring tape gnome. Ive lost more of those things than Ive even owned, and if that isnt some kind of evil power at work, I dont know what is.
