Many people have their own gemstones ...... Family jewels, and the like! :-) Every once in awhile, a prospective Bride arrives in my studio with a bag of diamonds and the beginnings of an idea. One such Bride wanted to use her stunning one-and-a-half carat Brilliant-cut diamond in the center of her ring with her smaller diamonds spinning off from the center. We worked together to come up with a design that reflected her stellar idea. I then carved a wax model for her in hard wax and set her diamonds in place so that she could see how the ring would look in three dimensions and actually try the wax model on before casting it. The yellow color of the wax allowed her to see how the ring would look in yellow gold. While working in wax, any changes can still be made to the design, if necessary. Once we were both happy with the design, I removed all the diamonds, cast the ring in 14k yellow gold, soldered in the prong mounting and set all of her diamonds in gold. When her ring was finished, she was thrilled to have taken part in the design of her very special ring! It was heartwarming for me as well.
