Many people who are part of the Taiwanese community are not ethnic Taiwanese. Its time to start encouraging each other to adopt forms of address that recognize the diverse nature and diverse languages of the Taiwanese community as a whole. The word Baiwanese is a pun that plays on the name of the indigenous Paiwan tribe, substituting the character bai (which means white) for pai. The purpose is to break through the idea, inherited from the colonial-imperial modernity, that individuals of European ancestry and languages of European origin are by definition foreign to Taiwan. It is to encourage people on both sides of that historical divide to think of themselves in new ways that this group has been established. 台灣的社群包括許多非台灣人，非漢族的人口。我們應該開始鼓勵自己雨大家去採取一些積極承認台灣社群多元性的發話方式。所謂「白灣」一詞就是戲弄台灣第一民族－排灣族的名稱，以「白」字取代「排」字，旨在突破殖民－帝國現代性的觀念下，認為只要是「白」人都是「外國人」而不屬於台灣本土社群。希望如此鼓勵後帝國，後殖民的大家，以不同方式來看待自己與他人的可能性。
