Many religions are an active threat against the spread of scientific literacy, while it would be nice if religions and science could work together. They wont be able to in most circumstances because science disproves assumptions theyre sometimes based upon. Belief is a tricky thing, the idea of holding onto an idea without evidence to support it is almost impossible to avoid. We simply dont know enough about the world to not hold some belief(s). When I say this, it includes theistic and non-theistic beliefs. The key is to not lose the ability to differentiate between beliefs and concepts with evidence to support it. Such as theorys, facts, or laws(scientific law, not legislative law).To acknowledge what your beliefs are and not get to attached to them. To be able to disregard your beliefs when you learn theyre false. Which is precisely why many religions are a threat, because religions preach beliefs as facts. It doesnt allow you to learn as new information is gathered.
