Many students in my Race and Media class really responded well to this video. And in a couple conversations it seems that Smooth is now a synonym for being an ally and a verb for talking about race as irrational rationale structural post-intentional on the individual level sometimes yet totally legible on the social level in terms of impact nevertheless and discussing race in an historically informed non-outraged compassionate way--because we dont say right way or wrong way -- too judgmental and too personal because this isnt about a personal confrontation, although its very personal … the strategies of innocence and denial that emerge. … way easier to just say something like Professor, I sorta had a Smooth situation yesterday. and he is using strategies of mindfulness which helps with everything
