Many-time SLS participant, Anna Halberstadt, has just had her book - TopicsExpress

Many-time SLS participant, Anna Halberstadt, has just had her book of poems published by a prestigious quality literary outlet. It is a rare and indeed rather remarkable feat -- for a native Russian speaker/reader/writer to pass trough the invisible membrane of s foreign language and, just as dauntingly, manage to clear the barrier of the very foreign basic perception of modern poetry in anglophone world, the pointedly alien sense of prosody. It is especially big deal of an occurrence when this multilayered transition takes place in the life of someone with a lifetimes worth of existential but largely non-literary experience. Anna, though a longtime New Yorker, is a native of Vilnius, one of the worlds strangest and most haunting cities, a city of disappeared people, disappeared voices -- and the poems in this book in the main are about the wistfully irrevocable sense of time and place long gone yet still remaining and existing in a changed context and resounding in memory. These are beautiful, thoughtful, ruminative, echoing, lasting poems; a slice of memory made literature... So, in short, you may want strongly to consider getting this one-of-a-kind book. spdbooks.org/Producte/9781893654150/vilnius-diary.aspx
