Many will be starting a journey through the Bible today. I want to encourage you not only to make it a one year decision, but a daily one. There are several things that hinder our progress through the Bible in a year, but one of them is deciding only at the beginning of a new year to read it, and not making that decision each day we wake up. If you only decide today and not tomorrow to read your Bible you will give up at some point and not make it to the end of the year. We make a similar mistake with Jesus when we decide to follow him at the beginning of our life (for many of us), but forget that my salvation is not tied to deciding once, but over and over again. To be clear, Im not talking about losing your salvation, Im talking about following Jesus; its not a one time decision but a daily one. And he said to all, If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. Luke 9:23. Will you miss a day in your Bible reading? Sure you will, but dont give up. Remember Bible reading is a grace to you not a duty needed for salvation or to be a good Christian... It is a gift. So what do you do when you miss a day or two or a week straight or even a month? Wake up and decide that today I will read, and pick up where you left off. Isnt that what we do in following Jesus? When we mess up and fail and turn away from following him for a day or two or a week or a month or even a year? We turn back to him in repentance of our sin of rebellion and follow him! In Gods goodness and grace he receives us- no guilt trip no paying for past mistakes, just acceptance. There are many good Bible reading plans out there that I will share in comments below but I thought this video might be helpful as you start reading through the Old Testament. It will summarize he OT in 5 minutes so you can understand what happens and know where you are going as you begin your journey. I pray that God blesses you in your journey today
