March 27, 2014 update early this morning people demonstrating, in the next big town south of Hinche, against the government owned power company knocked down some of the power poles and disrupted the power here. Last time poles were knocked down (because of traffic accidents) the power was off for about a week. Power loses here does play havoc on the people the longer it takes to be restored. Monday - Wednesdays from 4-5:30PM I teach English to small group of young men (young ladies are welcome too but they dont attend this class for some unknown reason.) On Wednesdays we read from the English Bible and discuss the words and their meanings from both the secular and spiritual views. We were reading James Chapter 3:5. I was discussing the word kindle which led to the word candle. From there the discussion went all sorts of ways and I was getting a little frustrated with them because they kept saying candle in place of kindle. After about 20 minutes or so I went back to verses 1 and 2 and reminded them and myself that not many of us should be teachers because of stricter judgment and how we all stumble in what we say and do. This Sunday I will be preaching at a countryside church. Your prayers are always welcome for Jane and me. On Monday I will be giving a used motorcycle to a pastor who also has church in the countryside. We have been praying for ways to help these pastors and their churches. Most of the people there are really poor and they have very limited opportunities. Giving a pastor a motorcycle will allow him to visit his congregation and help meet more of their needs for pastoral care.
