Marcus Garvey, Haile Selassie, and Malcolm X When studying - TopicsExpress

Marcus Garvey, Haile Selassie, and Malcolm X When studying Garvey you will come across the time he reached out to Haile Selassie for assistance with establishing a home in Africa for Africans in the diaspora, Halie Selassie refused to meet with Garvey and said the resin was because Garvey was a "Negro", Haile Selassie did not consider himself to be a "Negro", he thought of himself as being Caucasian and said so in his reply letter to Garvey and Garvey published that letter in his newspaper. Selassie did the same thing when Malcolm X reached out to him years later. Apparently Selassie thought of himself as being African, but he considered his phenotype or culture to be caucasian, many east Africans of that time had similar ideas, it is important to understand the prevailing beliefs of that time, and the fact that the Arabs had invaded and forced racism, slavery, and hatred on Africans for 1,200 years by the era in which Garvey, Selassie, and Malcolm X lived.
