Margaret Collier Graham said, People need joy quite as much as clothing. Some of them need it far more. Pain and travail are necessary to new awareness which prompts growth. And gift of growth is joy. Naturally when you become conscious that you are growing in a particular way you feel joy and proud. This means that joy and pain are intertwined. It is possible to feel only the burden of pain and not the exhilaration of joy, however. We can have hope. We must open our eyes to the joy that awaits each of us today. We must be willing to peel away the layers of pain to expose the core, the seedling of joy.
