Margie Johnson So...according to you, it is a requirement for Christians to pay tithes, and if you dont pay tithes, then you are not a Christian, because you are robbing from God? So what happened to Salvation is free, paid for by the blood of Jesus Christ? If you are required to pay tithes from every paycheck, in order to NOT rob from God, arent you in essence, making payments on your salvation? You read from Malachi, which is in the old testament, still under the law, and not long before that, you said that because of Jesus and what he did at Calvary, that we are now under a better covenant, so why do we have to go back to the law for a method of giving to God? What happened to 2 Corinthians 9:7? Paul carried out the will of God by building the new covenant church, and I dont see anywhere that he told the people to pay tithes. I am aware that Abraham paid tithes of the spoils of war to Melchizidech before the law, but I dont recall seeing anywhere that Abraham paid tithes of all that he owned to him. I know that he paid tithes before the law, and he also sacrificed animals before the law. So does that mean that we have to sacrifice animals too? Maybe you should re-read the 2nd chapter of James. I know that you, Donnie, and Frances said a few months ago that if people dont pay tithes, then they are just too stingy. Well let me tell you something, I pay tithes to you every month, but it is voluntary, not because I think Im robbing from God if I dont. Just because you and Donnie can pay a thousand dollars or more a month in tithes, and still live well, doesnt mean that the rest of us can afford to do the same. The widow of the bible gave her all, and Jesus honored her for that, while at the same time, he criticized the Pharasees who paid tithes faithfully (under the law). I am honored to give to the work of God, but I think you are doing a disservice to God and the people, by trying to shame them into giving to your ministry. You and your ministers seem to beat down your audience just about every chance you get, in more ways than one. Im sure this post will be deleted by your administrators, and that if you were to happen to read this, that I will be ridiculed by you and your staff, but I still needed to let you know how wrong I think you are on this subject. One more thing, I also think you did a disservice to the people by calling out their names in public, for giving so much to the work of God. God doesnt need you to call the names of the rich in your church, for the praise of men. People who give to God secretly, God will reward them openly, and he doesnt need you to call them out as special just because they can afford to give so much to your ministry. I have always liked and respected you, but you talk about money too much. You dont have to be constantly beating people over the head with it, in order for them to give to your ministry. Actually, you are causing people to turn you off because of it. Maybe you should have a little more faith and less fault finding with the people. As the old saying goes, you can draw more flies with honey than with vinegar.
