Maria OKane Profile - #1MariaOKane #le14 Irish language teacher and activist Maria OKane holds an International Degree in Irish and French from UCD and a H.Dip in Irish Legal Translation from Kings Inns. She is a passionate advocate of the Irish language, currently working with Conradh na Gaelige. Maria, who is from the Greenpark area in Dunshaughlin, is adamant that social justice, integration and community development must be at the fore of local politics. She feels that many people in rural areas are becoming increasingly isolated in an ever growing online society and that access to information regarding supports available is a problem for many that she will work hard to change through more personal interaction and finding ways to reach out to her community. Maria believes in working to find ways to bridge the generation gap and encourage young and old to work together so that nobody is left behind in an ever changing society. She is a huge supporter of youth led projects and will make it a priority to enhance and encourage such initiatives. Having watched many of her peers leave our shores due to lack of work, she is committed to lobbying for real investment in jobs for the county. She feels that rural Ireland is ar rich resource with huge potential for further growth the agricultural industry must be given the supports it needs to thrive. “I am delighted to have been selected to contest the local elections in May in the Ratoath area. Having lived and worked here all my life, I am very familiar with the needs of the local people.
