Maria Theresa Delgado United Methodist Church June 13,2013 (sermon outline) The persons in our Lives Study on the life of Job One of my friends in Fb posted a picture which has wording that says There are three persons that you should always remember. 1st is the person who stayed with you when you were at your lowest, 2nd is the person who left you when you were at your lowest ,3rd is the person who placed you in your lowest. Why should we need to remember those persons? To show gratitude to the person who stayed and vengeance or for pay back for the persons who left and caused you to be at your lowest? Is it worth remembering for those reasons? Most would say that the good person is the 1st person and the 2nd does not deserve to remain in our life and the third is the meanest. Christians are the weirdest persons on the face of the earth. God fearing people have different ways of perceiving things. They react differently and behave differently. Let us study the life story of Job. We have learned about jobs story since childhood in our Sunday school. But I never saw this story the way God had shown me when i was writing this sermon. Who is Job? • A man who lives in Uz. • The wealthiest rancher in his area. Had 7,000 sheep, 3,000 camels, 1000 oxen and 500 female donkeys. • Job has a large family; he had seven sons and three daughters. • Job is very godly and evident by his regular offering to God for the sanctification of his children. What is the turning point in jobs life? • Angels went to report to The Almighty Jehovah and Satan went with them, as God allows Satan to see Him until Satan’s final judgment. • God asked Satan if he noticed his servant Job. God said that there is no man like job. He does not have anything to do with evil. • Satan said that it was so as God has greatly blessed Job. • God allowed Satan to take everything Job had including his children. • Job despaired but said i was born naked from my mother’s womb and empty will I leave. • The angel reported to God and including again Satan. • God said to Satan...There is nothing like Job...even I allowed you to bring all sorts of disasters upon him he still remained faithful. • Satan said if Job will lose his health he will curse God to His face ..as man will do anything to save his life. • God allowed Satan to inflict sickness upon Job. • God had boils (pigsa) from head to toe. Even his internal organs were infected that he could not eat or breath easily. His wounds were oozing with pus and had worms. Job is like a living dead in sight and in scent. • He scrapes his boils with a broken pot to relieve his pain. • His wife told his to curse God and die. Then she left Job. • His friends Eliphaz, Bildad and Zophar visited him. • They were filled with so much grief upon seeing Job as he looks so different. So great the grief that they were not able to say anything and just seat with job for 7 days without saying anything. • Job finally spoke and tried to voice out his pain and grief. But did not speak evil about God. • Eliphaz wants to rationalize what is happening with Job by saying his experience...that God punishes those who commit sin. Accused Job of sinning against God so he is being punished for that. • Even God could attest of the innocence of job. • Job defended himself and said he did not do anything evil against God. • Bildad reprimanded job, He uses learning and facts that God will only bring disaster to a ungodly person. • Job defended himself again, and said that he wants to talk with God as only God could prove his innocence and would like to know the reason behind the things that happened. But job did not speak evil against God. • Zophar got angry at Job and said he is so proud, he should repent and so his turmoil will end. He said that Job is so proud that he requests the presence of God to answer his questions. • God answers Job and showed him how great and majesty He is by stating his creation on earth and the universe. • God reprimanded jobs friends and said Job is the only one who speaks the truth about Him. • God ordered his friends to bring 7 sheep and 7 bulls each as offering and Job should pray for them to be acceptable. • God returned all the things Job lost and double it. Job had 14,000 sheep, 600 camels, 2,000 oxen and 1000 female donkeys, • He had 7 sons and 3 beautiful daughters that no woman could be more beautiful than them. • God restored the friendship of job with his 3 supposedly comforters. Conclusion: Disasters or problems will come our way, we should remember that God allowed it to happen for a reason. God knows exactly what He is doing. We just need to keep our faith in Him. James 1:12 Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him. • The persons who remained and the worst person on Jobs life when he was at his lowest. • Jobs wife we must remember also gone through a lot. Lost her children, security and even her husband seem to be dying at that time and is experiencing great pain. She was so hopeless and could not do anything to help her husband. She left to seek help. Jobs wife is a godly woman as well. We could see it when Job said you speak like a heathen woman. This means that she does not usually exhibit such an attitude. Just was not able to handle the things that happened. • Jobs brothers and sisters arrived to helped him and gave him silver and gold. • It is evident that Job’s wife left because of her love for Job and seek help to Jobs brothers and sister. So the 2nd person who left..is the person who truly loved job. • The 3rd person who placed job in his lowest is God. God who has build a stronger, purer and deeper faith in Job. The God who blessed him more abundantly and gave him long life. As I have said earlier a Godly person sees things differently and reacts differently. God has so much confidence in Job, he has faith in Job..that Job will not fail Him. How about us..we put our faith in God and has confidence on Him. But can God have faith and confidence in us? Let Job’s faith be an example to us. Let us pray that God can also be proud of us and say..well done my good and faithful servant.
