Marine Wildlife Safari We sure are lucky to live here! Our two tours today, a group of Quadra Elementary students at 9am and our tour group at 2 pm really picked a beautiful day to go out! Much to the delight of many of the children, the Tidal Rapids were fantastic yesterday morning. The whirlpools created by the currents are both fascinating and exhilarating. These same rapids and whirlpools help the Eagles hunt fish, schools of fish are trapped in the whirlpools and pushed upwards, close enough to the surface for and Eagle to swoop down and grasp one in its talons. Jimmy Judd Island is a popular spot to watch the Eagles fish, the Yuculta rapids are right in front of the island, making for perfect fishing and a safe feasting area. More than 40 Eagles were spotted at their current favourite fishing spot. Lots of marine activity was out yesterday! 3-5 Harbour Porpoises were spotted, As well as lots of Harbour Seals. A pod f 35+ Pacific White-Sided Dolphins were spotted in Nodales Channel and boy did they put on a show! Many of the dolphins were riding the bow of the Tenacious III in the crystal clear waters. The Harlequin Duck and the Common Murre were both spotted on the trip, two beautiful birds to complement a picturesque day. Captain Shaun’s quote of the day: The happiness of the bee and the dolphin is to exist. For man it is to know that and to wonder at it. - Jacques Yves Cousteau
