Mark 4:35 - On that day, when evening came, He said to them, - TopicsExpress

Mark 4:35 - On that day, when evening came, He said to them, “Let us go over to the other side.” 36 Leaving the crowd, they took Him along with them in the boat, just as He was; and other boats were with Him. 37 And there arose a fierce gale of wind, and the waves were breaking over the boat so much that the boat was already filling up. 38 Jesus Himself was in the stern, asleep on the cushion; and they woke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?” 39 And He got up and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Hush, be still.” And the wind died down and it became perfectly calm. 40 And He said to them, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?” 41 They became very much afraid and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey Him?” What question did the disciples ask Jesus? How did Jesus respond? What question did Jesus ask them? What was He implying? How did their faith grow through this experience with Christ? When have you doubted that Christ was in control? During the stormy times in your life, have you ever asked the question that the disciples asked, “Teach, do You not care that we are perishing?” What was your reaction when Christ eventually calmed the storm in your life? How did your faith grow through that experience with Christ? Lord, help me to remember today that You are in control and that You have power and authority over all things. NOTE: Are you estranged from your spiritual family? That can happen for various reasons. Sometimes it is because we don’t have a close biological family so we have difficulty relating well as a family. Sometimes it is because we become disillusioned with people because our expectations are too high. Sometimes we disagree with each other, or even step on each other’s toes. And sometimes we become selfish and demanding and end up hurting each other. However, a spiritual family can work through these problems if they will go to Jesus, like the disciples did, and ask questions. Jesus cares, and He has answers for us. And think about this: If the disciples had simply jumped ship when the storm arose, they would not have seen Jesus’ power and authority as He said “Hush, be still.” Their faith would not have grown. If you want to see Jesus’ power and authority in your life, and in the life of your church, then don’t jump ship when storms arise. Go to Jesus. Ask Him questions. Watch Him still the storm. And grow.
