Mark 9:22-24 And it has often thrown him both into fire and into water, intending to kill him. But if You can do anything, do have pity on us and help us. And Jesus said, [You say to Me], If You can do anything? [Why,] all things can be (are possible) to him who believes. At once the father of the boy gave [an eager, piercing, inarticulate] cry with tears, and he said, Lord, I believe! [Constantly] help my weakness of faith! This is the story of the desperate father who brings his sick son to Jesus as a last resort to see if He just might be able to help them. By the time the father brings his son to Jesus, his hope that the boy will be healed has been sorely tried. He has literally tried everything, without success. No one could cast the evil spirit from his son. Now he approaches Jesus with the hesitant request: But if You can do anything, do have pity on us and help us. [You say to Me], If You can do anything? Jesus asks. [Why,] all things can be (are possible) to him who believes. And then the father speaks straight from the heart, I do believe, but help my weakness of faith! The fathers sincere confession is enough, and at Jesus command, the spirit leave the boy. Afterwards the disciples asked Jesus why they werent able to cast out the evil spirit. Jesus said to them, You unbelieving generation [without any faith]! How long shall I [have to do] with you? How long am I to bear with you? Jesus wanted to know from them. Then He told them that the spirit that possessed the boy could only be cast out by prayer and fasting, while they tried to do it in their own strength. It is faith in God that we need, because nothing is impossible to God. It is not prayer which heal you, but God Whom answers prayer...Shalom!
