Mark Blicavs has blitzed Geelongs 2km time trial this morning, coming home 30 seconds clear of his first to fourth year teammates. Josh Walker was second, while Josh Caddy and Mitch Duncan finished third and fourth. The cats returned to Simonds Stadium after completing the time trial, where most players took part in a skills session. Ruckman Hamish McIntosh, who failed to play a game due to injury in 2013, took part in some of the skills work, before successfully completing a number of 200m sprints under the watchful eye of fitness staff. Two other players who have been plagued by injury worries, Lincoln McCarthy and Josh Cowan, completed the entire session, proving they are both back to full fitness after overcoming a foot stree fracture and hamstring and ankle problems respectively. Only a handful of young players are still in rehab at this stage - Allen Christensen and Jackson Thurlow are both recovering after having post-season hip operations. Were a bit like twins at the moment, Christensen explained. We had our operations on the same day. It was just a little clean-out on our right hips. Nothing too serious. It will just delay our pre-season a little bit. I think Ill be back on the park in two or three weeks. We got it done pretty early, so rehab has gone well so far and we’ll be out there soon, hopefully. Shane Kersten is also on a restricted program after a minor knee operation. Geelongs fifth-year and older players return to training on Monday, December 2, although most of them have already completed unofficial training sessions since returning from their break. The entire squad will head to Coffs Harbour for a pre season training camp from December 12-20.
