Mark Mann An experienced and inventive photographer, Mark prefers to describe himself as a visual artist, and who are we to argue? Heres his description of the concepts behind the artworks hes including in SURFACE. We think youll agree that he has every reason to call himself an artist. The series Rorschach was inspired by the ink blot tests invented by Herman Rorschach in 1921. The test was invented as a means to gauge psychoanalytical theory within humans as well as there personalities. I was interested how we perceive the world to make sense. Every day objects go unnoticed because as far as the eye can see only have one meaning however, when you book match the images much like the ink blot test the mind forces you to reinvent the obvious to give meaning and understanding were there is none. I wanted to use organic subjects created via nature in the sense that time, environmental elements such as the wind and decay have created one half of the image waiting for me to bring together the vision to construct the final part of the jigsaw. Whats wonderful about the series is not one image is or ever will be the same! From the split second that I press the shutter to every time you gaze, the images reinvent themselves. Were glad to have Mark back for another show.
