Market hearing before elevation of cases to court set By Lydia C. Pendon Tuesday, January 6, 2015 THE Iloilo City Council will conduct the last public hearing on reported city public market irregularities on Thursday at the session hall, a top official said. Councilor Rodel Fullon Agado, chairman of the committee on markets and slaughterhouse, said a recommendation will be submitted to Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog for possible merger of two market reports from the executive’s Market Committee and the Committee on markets. These combined reports will be evaluated by the city legal office for possible elevation and filing of cases to the Civil Service Commission and the court for prosecution of criminal cases. Agado said the Council initially wanted to end the investigative hearing by December 2014 but he insisted on the last hearing as a due process to give time for respondents to explain their side on the reported market anomalies and irregularities. Invited to the last hearing are former Local Economic Enterprise Office chief Vincent de la Cruz and his wife Xenia de la Cruz who has a market stall at the terminal market under another name, market in-charge Ely Sumaray, retired market supervisor Enrique Billena, job hire Fely Villalobos, and three other employees earlier named in the Market Committee report. Agado said that possible sanctions include dismissal from the service and suspension for a certain period of time.
