Marlon Brando, greatest of actors, of course, is known for inventing a natural and realistic style of acting that directly reflected the way people really behave. However, there was an earlier Brando--David Garrick, an English actor in the 18th century who was highly acclaimed for his "naturalistic" and "realistic" style of acting that was glaringly different from the "bombastic" and "declamatory" acting style of the day.
