Marvin L. Elliott, 80, of Griggs, Oklahoma, died Thursday morning, June 19, 2014, at the Coldwater Manor in Stratford, Texas. The son of John Marvin and Roxie Ann (Trimble) Elliott, he was born March 13, 1934, in Oak Grove, Louisiana. Marvin was raised in the Griggs community and graduated from Plainview High School with the Class of 1952. He then attended Panhandle State University in Goodwell. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Marvin and Anita J. Cline were united in marriage on May 5, 1960, at Hitchland, Texas. Mr. Elliott was a farmer and operated the Griggs Mercantile, which has been family operated for 78 years. He was a member of the Griggs Church of God and had served on the Griggs fire department for over 20 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, George Robert Elliott. Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Anita Elliott of the home; one son, Billy Elliott of Stratford, Texas; one daughter, Carla Pugh of Texhoma, Oklahoma; four grandchildren: Megan and husband, Carlos Morales of Midland, Texas, J.D. Pugh of Weatherford, Oklahoma, Ashley Elliott of Austin, Texas and Heidi Elliott of Amarillo, Texas; and one great granddaughter, Maisy Grace Morales of Midland. Funeral services will be conducted Monday morning, June 23r, at 10:00 a.m. at the Texhoma United Methodist Church with Rev. Tommy Hull, pastor of the Texhoma First Baptist Church and Rev. Gary Smith, pastor of the Stratford First Christian Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Texhoma Cemetery. Services are under the care of the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon. The Elliott family request memorials be given to the Griggs Fire Department or to Texhoma Pride. Memorials will be accepted at the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1112, Guymon, OK 73942.
