Mary and I are leaving in a few hours on the last overseas trip of my presidency (not counting the Indoor Air Conference in Hong Kong, which is immediately after the annual meeting). This will be the first official visit of a sitting ASHRAE President to South Africa and promises to be a very interesting week. It will also be my first visit to Africa - filling a major gap in my travel resume. Over the course of five days in Johannesburg and Cape Town, I will be meeting with ASHRAE members, SAIRAC (an ASHRAE Associate Society), Consulting Engineers South Africa, South African Department of Environmental Affairs, South African Qualifications Certification Committee, South African Refrigeration and Airconditioning Contractors Association, Council for Scientific and Industrial Research and the trade press. After that, it will be time to focus on the annual meeting, but I still have two trips to Atlanta booked for important meetings before heading to Seattle.
