Maryland League of Conservation Voters Deliver Climate Change Denier Award to Representative Harris Chester, MD – Maryland League of Conservation Voters delivered a climate change denier award to Representative Harris on Tuesday, August 13th at 12pm in recognition of his extreme anti-science views, which put him at odds with 97 percent of scientists and a majority of the American people. The event was a part of a “Day of Action” to hold climate change deniers accountable nationwide. In a recent survey conducted by George Mason University, 86% of Marylanders say they believe climate change is happening. “Representative Harris should vote with what most Marylanders believe, that climate change is happening and that we have the power to lessen its effects through effective policy,” Karla Raettig, Maryland LCV Executive Director. “In his district where most of his constituents live near or on the water, they are most at risk for climate change effects.” Click here for more information about the study: climatechangecommunication.org/ “We hope demonstrate to Harris the need to reconsider his thoughts on climate change and begin to vote with his constituents’ needs” states Jay Falstad, a constituent from Queen Anne’s county and on the board of Maryland LCV “In an environmentally vulnerable state like ours, the Eastern Shore is especially sensitive to rising temperatures.” Andy Harris exited the Maryland General Assembly in 2010 with an Environmental Lifetime Score of 13% and holds a 7% Lifetime Score with the National League of Conservation Voters. Representative Harris is one of many members of Congress that will be presented the Climate Change Deniers Award across the country. These congressmen either refuse to act or, worse, deny that the problem even exists. “We need to hold these climate change deniers accountable for their extreme position, ensuring that their constituents and the general public are aware of their rejection of science” Karla Raettig states. # # # For more than 30 years, the non-partisan Maryland League of Conservation Voters has served as the political voice of environment.
