Mass Protest To Save Public Education Begins Tomorrow By: Taiwo Ogunmola-Omiliani on August 12, 2013 - 3:40am The Joint Action Front (JAF) will tomorrow led the mass protest to save public education in the country. The general secretary, JAF, Comrade Abiodun Aremu stated that the protest will hold on Tuesday, 13th of August, 2013. He called on Nigerians to come out en masse and join the protest to save public education in the country. The protest will take off from Labour House, Yaba Lagos. According to Aremu, “University students have been sent home because of strike action and for three months, polytechnic students had their academic calendar disrupted for similar reasons. “The implication of all these has been disruption in academic calendars, falling standards of education at all levels, a high level of insecurity and a bleak future for the current generation and the Nigerian child”. JAF said that governments at all levels in Nigeria operate anti-poor policies and that this was clearly expressed in their lack of disposition to public education. It maintained that funding of public education is not given the priority it deserves, saying the children of those in government and their friends are being trained in private schools in Nigeria and foreign countries with looted public funds. It said, “Nigerians must know that the politicians at the Presidency, state governments, national and state assemblies, top civil servants, traditional rulers and their cronies of contractors and patrons were beneficiaries of public education. “Some of them set up private schools and universities in Nigeria and abroad with stolen fund from the public coffers. That is why none of their children are in any public school in Nigeria. - copied from leadership.ng/news/120813/mass-protest-save-public-education-begins-tomorrow
