Mass Transfer Of Delta Workers Imminent –Okpara ANDREW IKEHI Indications emerged yesterday that Delta State Government may have concluded plans to ensure a massive transfer of workers within its state public service. This was revealed by the outgoing Commissioner for Economic Planning, Olorogun Kenneth Okpara during a farewell meeting with staff of the State Ministry of Economic Planning. Mr. Okpara, while saying that the move is aimed at strengthening efficiency within the state workforce disclosed that the State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan has given directive to the State Head of Service (HOS) Sir Okey Ofili in that direction. His words, ‘’change is bound to happen anywhere, and anytime. What had happened now in not out of place, and let me state here that the State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, has instructed the State Head of Service to do massive transfer of workers in the state. By this, a lot of people are going to move and that is going to take effect soon, across the state.’’ “The Governor is doing this because, he believes that people have stayed in one place for too long and that is not supposed to be so”. “When it happens, take it in good fate because, if you are determined, dedicated and focused, wherever you are, you are bound to excel” Okpara explained. Commending staff of the ministry for their resilience, commitment and dedication to driving the state government’s policy of ensuring a robust economy, Okpara who has been reassigned to the state Ministry of Finance, urged the staff to continue with the on-going institutional building in the ministry. He told the staff that their service delivery had become the envy of other ministries in the state just as he urged them not to allow their performance level to drop, adding that they should uphold the structure that has been in place in the ministry. Responding, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr. Gift Nikoro, while extolling the sterling leadership qualities of the out-going commissioner, enjoined the staff to ensure that they sustain the endearing legacies the commissioner was leaving behind. He described Okpara as a steam roller whom, he said, exhibited high sense of ingenuity, ability, wisdom and intelligence in the discharge of his duties as commissioner in the ministry. Nikoro, however advised him to tread cautiously and look carefully when he finally assumes office in his new ministry. Our Correspondent reports that emotions were high as tears flowed freely from some of the staff who said they would miss the fatherly advice, knowledge and intelligence of the commissioner whom they nicknamed, ‘Mr. tracker’, just as they prayed that God should continue to guide, guard and protect him in his new office/ministry.
