Massie is wrong here and Iain Martin is right. Massie - TopicsExpress

Massie is wrong here and Iain Martin is right. Massie fundamentally doesnt understand how either the IUS internal market or the US-Canada trade area work. Coordination on product standards and job qualifications among the US states, among Canadian provinces and between the US and Canada is mostly voluntary and is done mostly by industry associations and professional groups, such as the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, or by conferences of state Attorneys-General on code issues. Only in a few areas, like transport, are standards generated by the federal governments, and only a very few issues are covered specifically by NAFTA. Brits should study how NAFTA and the (highly integrated) North American market actually works, both with a view to British membership after Brexit, and as a model for post-Brexit UK-rEU (remnant EU) trade relations. blogs.telegraph.co.uk/culture/allanmassie/100072119/no-we-havent-surrendered-our-sovereignty-to-the-eu/
