Match Report : AFC Wallasey Town Christmas Party Wallasey went with a compact formation, heavily bunched in a corner of The Cheshire Cheese and the seating plan brought new meaning to team bonding. Captain Tom Freeman arrived fashionably late but the event got underway with the DJ opting for Deacon Blue, which is probably a reflection on most of the team being in their 30s. With a couple of cry-offs (lightweights) the starting line up tucked into the San Miguel like it was going out of fashion (San Miguel will never go out of fashion). Matty Morris and Adam Hanaghan soldiered on with their injuries (6am start at work the next day) and managed to last 90minutes before having to leave. They usually look ready for bed at around the 60/70 minute mark so this was an impressive effort! The end of season awards ceremony will have more scope not to clash so hopefully can be an event everyone can fully attend and fair play to them for coming down - true clubmen. Then Dave Sullivan was substituted following a phone call from a baby. This is the first teething related departure Ive ever seen from a party and he took two ultras with him. It was time for the remaining troops to step it up. The draw for the hamper of spirits and wines was drawn and won by the pub landlord, much to the dismay of the Wallasey party and thirsty locals. However, in a dramatic gesture the landlord took the whiskey but handed out the wine to any takers and placed the litre of Smirnoff on the Wallasey table and told us to fill our boots. It lasted 5 minutes. The next hour or two are blurry and you may have seen photographic evidence of everyone on their feet following a display of truly shocking dancing. Full marks to Josh Sefton though who won the dance-off with a local in his late 50s and Wallasey Ultra Stuart Walker who left a posh works do at the Albert Dock to throw shapes with the Town boys and wags. With some after hours jaeger bombs and the landlord doing a rather impressive Elvis number on karaoke , the end was rousing. Apologies to any neighbours of the cheese who were woken by the we love you Wallasey chants, but we do. Thanks for coming, its a cracking group of lads and the friends, partners and families that come along make it all the more special. The raffle for the drinks hamper made an impressive £184 for Arrowe Park childrens unit, a place very close to our hearts so well done everyone for that too. Hope you enjoyed your Sunday off, see you all next week. If I missed anything then I either didnt see it or it wasnt me. OOOH WALLASEY WE LOVE YOU
