Match Report, NTSFL U15 Premier Division Holycross FC v Ballymackey It was a wet, windy day at Glenbane, expectations were high as two fairly even teams were ready to play. The atmosphere was tense as the opening few minutes were tight. Holycross were playing with a strong breeze in the first half and began to take a slight advantage. Rhys Shelly received the ball from Aaorn Delaney on the edge of the box. Rhys cut in and hit a fierce shot at the Ballymackey keeper. The goalie tipped it onto the crossbar only for Ben Slattery to volley home the rebound. This goal settled the boys and they began to build the momentum. The defence were doing great along with Eoin Morris and Eamon Ryan in centre midfield. There were some strong tackles from Eoin Morris, Jack C Ryan, Bill Maher, Eanna Ryan and Eoin Ryan.Towards the end of the half Holycross began to create loads of chances but were denied by the Ballymackey netminder. A few great saves were also made by Cormac O’Connor in the Holycross goals. With the half nearing its finish Rhys Shelly scored a wonder goal from near the half way line to leave the home side two up at the break. After half time the boys refuelled by water and a good pep talk. The second half began with Ballymackey on the attack, but Bill Maher at the heart of the backline was very much to the fore in dealing with away side attacks. The wind was starting to pick up and the game was far from over. The Holycross defence were holding out very well and they looked very dangerous on the counter attack with Paddy McGrath doing loads up and down his line. Eoin Morris was holding the midfield well along with Luke O’Shea who came on for the injured Eamon Ryan. The game was played at a high tempo and it could have gone either way until a wonderful corner by Paddy McGrath was headed in by Aaorn Delaney. This goal secured the points but Ballymackey never gave up and they got a consolation when a quick free kick flew into the bottom corner. The ref blew the final whistle and Holycross were delighted with an important victory. Man of the match Bill Maher. Final score Holycross FC 3-1 Ballymackey.
