Match Report: Thursday 7th November 2013 Check out the Thursday Night League Tables @ playfootball.net/preston/players_lounge Thursday Night Premiership Unbelievable Jeff 13 V 6 Heritage A Top Scorer: Chris Higgins (Unbelievable Jeff) (4) MOM: Martyn Swain (Unbelievable Jeff) After last weeks epic victory over title rivals Fat Kids Possy, this week was all about staying professional and taking a step closer to the title. Turner’s team were on top for the majority of the game and there was no surprise when Top Scorer Higgins added 4 more goals to his season tally to put him 6 goals behind Fab Rats Barry Farrington in the race for the Golden Boot. Fellow team mate Martyn Swain also had a night to remember as he secured his 3rd MOTM of the season to put him joint 2nd in the Player of the Season charts. Unbelievebale Jeff can now wrap up the title with a victory over Strictly Old Skool next week. Thursday Night Premiership Squidoo FC 7 V 5 Strictly Old Skool Top Scorers: Jimmy O’Keefe & Mickey Brown (Strictly Old Skool) & Liffy Lythgoe & Luke Gibson (Squidoo) (2) MOM: Stu Eland (Squidoo FC) Mid table clash here between Squidoo and Strictly Old Skool, both were playing for 4th place and to build onto next season. Only 2 goals separated them in the end and four scorers had to share the Top Scorer award as O’Keefe, Brown, Lythgoe and Gibson all scored a brace each. The match official decided to award Squidoo’s Stu Eland the Star man award. Strictly Old Skool are certainly in pole position for that last Champions League Spot as they lead there rivals by 2 points and have a game in hand. Thursday Night Premiership Ajax Treesdown 11 V 8 Inter the Pub Top Scorers: Sean Mc & Luke Crompton (Ajax Treesdown) & James Smithson (Inter The Pub) (5) MOM: Luke Crompton (Ajax Treesdown) With 3rd place already secured by Inter The Pub, this was all about building confidence for the new season as they will attempt to break into the top 2 that in recent seasons has been dominated by Unbelievable Jeff and Fat Kids Possy. Like the previous game we had more than one top scorer as Mcelone, Crompton and Smithson all bagged 5 each to share the nightly award. Special shout out to MOTM Luke Crompton who was in magical form, the match official described him simply as ‘a footballer that understood the game’..! Luke scored 5 of his team’s goals and made 3 assists for team mate and fellow top scorer Sean Mcelone. Thursday Night Premiership PSV 10 V 8 Screech FC Top Scorer: Danny McColgan (Screech FC) (5) MOM: Gaz Gorless (PSV) Yet another quality and close encounter in the Thursday Premiership, it really does make for an exciting new season in a couple of weeks. 18 goals were scored and only 2 separated the teams at full time. PSV edging a 10-8 victory over Screech FC. Screech were missing some key men so will see this as a positive as they look to be back to full strength next week for the final game of the season. Captain McColgan did his part with his 5 goals but MOTM deservedly went to Gaz Corless of PSV. Thursday Night Premiership Fat Kids Possy 13 V 7 Substandard Liege Top Scorer: Jamie Brown (Fat Kids Possy) (5) MOM: Jamie Brown (Fat Kids Possy) The only thing Fat Kids can do is keep winning and hope Unbelievable Jeff slip up. As we know there was no such luck this week but with this comfortable 13-7 victory they will go into the final game still with a chance of dramatically clinching the title at the final hurdle. Gaffer Jamie Brown stole the show as he clinched both awards but he knows it will count for nothing if they don’t get there hands on the Premiership Trophy. Thursday Night Championship Wyre Warriors 8 V 8 Unreal Madrid Top Scorer: Dan Sutcliffe (Wyre Warriors) (6) MOM: Scott Hofstetter (Wyre Warriors) Arguably the game of the night as Wyre Warriors and Unreal Madrid played out an epic 8-8 draw. However Wyre Warriors will probably not describe it as ‘epic’ as they now only sit 2 points ahead of promotion rivals Smokin aces who were awarded an 8-0 win against the Vacancy. We now go into the final game with the second automatic promotion slot up for grabs. Wyre Warriors will go in as favourites as a win for them would secure promotion to the Premiership. They will face a tough test next week as they play G.T.F.C who will certainly not be rolling over for anyone. Thursday Night Championship GTFC 6 V 9 First Touch Top Scorers: Andrew Schorah & Shar Nawaaz (First Touch) & Dane Leeming & Tony Woodcock (G.T.F.C) MOM: Ric Holyoak (First Touch) First Touch are now only 1 game away from becoming the ‘Invincibles’ as they look to go the entire 18 week season unbeaten. With the Title and Promotion already in the bag surely next week is all about completing what would be a memorable season for Schorahs team. G.T.F.C will certainly be proud of there efforts as they pushed the runaway leaders all the way. Thursday Night Championship Typical Orient 7 V 8 Fab Rat Circus Top Scorer: Phil Povey (Fab Rat Circus) (4) MOM: Phil Povey (Fab Rat Circus) A superb game of football here between one of the oldest serving teams we have down at Playfootball and one of the newest teams we have welcomed to our family. Typical Orient made there Thursday debut and saw there team narrowly lose out by one goal. It certainly didn’t go without a bit of controversy as Fab Rats were awarded a penalty as one of Orients players entered the area. As a new team they were unaware of the rule and will see themselves as being very unlucky. The performance will certainly come as a positive for Alex Burke’s team as they look to next week to make up for the loss. We can’t go without mentioning the man of the hour Phil Povey. Talk about leading by example as he scored 4 goals to take the top scorer. The match official described Phil as ‘having amazing sportsmanship’ and was constantly giving his fellow team mates encouragement. Well played Phil! Thursday Night Championship Jonesco 7 V 17 Heritage B Top Scorers: Tyler Battle & Mick Jackson (Heritage B) (5) MOM: Josh Tomlinson (Heritage B) A routine win for Heritage B as they took on bottom placed Jonesco. Heritage find themselves in a 3 horse race with Fab Rats and Ajax Treesdown to stay out of the bottom 2. With only 1 game to go, Heritage will be in pole position as they sit 4th from bottom 2 points clear of second from bottom. Battle and Jackson shared the top scorer with 5 goals a piece but it was team mate Tomlinson who was awarded the MOTM award. Thursday Night 6’s Mustard FC 1 V 6 I Like Turtles Top Scorer: Simon Thompson (I Like Turtles) (4) MOM: Simon Thompson (I Like Turtles) Mustard returned to the 6s league after there brief stint in the 5s league to be reminded that there’s no weak teams in the 6s league and you have to really work hard for every point. Simon Thompson was in unstoppable form as he took both nightly awards to put his side to within 3 points of 3rd place PSG. Thursday Night 6’s PSG 3 V 4 Young Gunz Top Scorer: Adam Salkeld (PSG) (3) MOM: Adam Salkeld (PSG) Fantastic effort from PSG who played the entire game with 5 men and were up against a confident Young Gunz side that have won 5 games in a row since there defeat on the opening day of the season. Adam Salkeld was certainly one of the reasons for the game being so close as he seemed to cover every blade of grass on the pitch. As for Young Gunz there impressive winning streak goes on as they stay within 3 points for the leaders. Thursday Night 6’s Unfit Athletic 7 V 6 Lid FC Top Scorers: Ste Sourbuts & Scott Hammill (Lid FC) & Simon Morris & Tom Gutsell (Unfit Athletic) (3) MOM: Tom Gutsell (Unfit Athletic) It really has been a disappointing season so far for last seasons champions Lid FC. There poor recent run of form continued as they went down 7-6 to Unfit Athletic who just seemed to want it more that there opponents. Lid also welcomed back there star striker Scott Hammill but that wasn’t enough as Tom Gutsell stole the show with his MOTM performance. Lid now sit a huge 12 points behind leaders Horse FC. As for Unfit Athletic, they move off the bottom of the league and will look to now move up the table after this impressive win. Thursday Night 6’s Real Madras 1 V 8 Horse FC Top Scorer: Mark Taylor (Horse FC) (4) MOM: Mark Taylor (Horse FC) Horse remain unbeaten and keep up there 100% start to the season with there 6th straight victory as they made hard work of there 8-1 victory. The final score line certainly didn’t reflect the first half performance as after 11 minutes it was 0-0 and the half time score only read 2-1 to Horse. After wave after wave of attack, the league leaders finally clicked into gear and MOTM and top scorer Mark Taylor took control and scored 3 fine goals including a cheeky little chip finish. Horse who were missing two of there key players in Blakey and Stephens managed to cope without them and remained 3 points clear at the top. Ash Redding also grabbed a brace to take him to 11 for the season. The message was clear…. ‘Fear the Beard!!’
