* Match report * The Rams were missing the suspended Jon Murray, but included new signing Julian Owusu in attack. Tom Willment came in at centre back. The Poppies were without the unavailable Tommy Hull, and the injured Jonathan Thorpe and Louis Hamilton. Jon Bukasa was on the bench, still suffering from a week long illness and the returning James Jepson was not 100% fit and joined the substitutes which also included youth teamer Niall Duffy. Lewis Wilson started wide on the right with Dubi Ogbonna and Alfie Taylor up top. Ash Robinson was at right back with James Clifton in the centre. _____________________________________________________ As usual, the pitch at Holloways Park was in excellent condition, despite a fair amount of morning rain – and as the first half progressed the rain ceased to leave a sunny afternoon. There was an early save for Kettering keeper, Jamie McAlindon as he dived to save Elliott Carey’s low drive. The Poppies took the lead in the 6th minute with an opportunist goal from Dubi Ogbonna. Tom Willment was caught on the ball centrally 25 yards out and Ogbonna robbed him, rounded keeper Sam Bunting and rolled the ball into the empty net. The next goal effort came from the visitors on 12 minutes as Brett Solkhon headed wide from Andy Gooding’s cross. Andy Hall looked to be clipped by Bunting as he went through, but the Referee yellow carded him for simulation. It was 2-0 four minutes later. A lovely through ball over the defence from Gooding saw Alfie Taylor run on to score with a firm shot past Bunting. Kettering were controlling the game and on 19 minutes a dangerous cross from Lewis Wilson came off a defender and fell to Bunting. The Rams first real chance on 23 minutes saw Omari Patrick get clear on the right, but his low cross went begging as Lee Thompson came in at the far post. Kettering responded as Brett Solkhon fired wide from Wilson’s free kick. Just after the half hour mark,Beaconsfield could have pulled a goal back. Thompson forged a way down the middle, but under pressure from James Clifton, he could only shoot tamely against the legs of McAlindon. Then it was Kettering’s turn to threaten as Wilson’s header from Taylor’s cross was cleared almost off the line by Tom Gant. The last few minutes of the half saw the home team threatening with Thompson failing to control the ball as he had sight of the goal, and then heading a cross wide. Finally in the half, Jordan Chandler’s drive was diverted over his own bar by Jason Lee. Half Time: Beaconsfield SYCOB 0 - 2 Kettering Town The Rams had two early chances as Jason Lee’s poor clearance fell to Lee Togwell- but the shot was wide. Then McAlindon was quick off his line to smother from Julian Owusu. Gooding’s 55th minute corner saw Solkhon’s close range header well saved by the diving Bunting. A minute later Beaconsfield scored. The ball was lost on Kettering’s right and Owusu got the better of makeshift right back Ash Robinson and his deflected cross was swept in by Thompson. The home team’s confidence was up as they had a spell of pressure, but without threatening McAlindon. Alfie Taylor created a chance for himself coming in from the left-but scuffed his shot wide of the left upright, then Wilson got in on Bunting and the keeper did well to save. Now into the last quarter of the match, Elliott Carey forced a good save out of McAlindon and at the other end Bunting tipped over Hall’s cross. On 78 minutes it could have been 3-1. Hall’s cross from the left gave Niall Duffy a free header at goal but it was over the bar. Kettering were now looking for the goal to close out the game. Wilson did get the ball in the net on 82 minutes but Taylor was penalized for a handball. Then Duffy did well on the right setting up Hall for a low right foot shot which was wide of the left upright. On 89 minutes,Lewis Wilson should have scored as he raced clear- but he stroked his right foot shot wide of the right post. Gooding got in on the keeper, who made an excellent stop and finally Wilson’s shot was well saved by the diving Bunting. Full Time: Beaconsfield SYCOB 1 - 2 Kettering Town Attendance: 147 (Poppies Fans estimated at 100 )
