In front of him there is a Sacred Tree, possibly symbolizing life, and he makes a gesture of worship to a god in a winged disc. The god, who may be the sun god Shamash, has a ring in one hand; this is an ancient Mesopotamian symbol of god-given kingship. There are protective spirits on either side behind the king. This symmetrical scene, heavy with symbolism, was placed behind the royal throne. There was another opposite the main door of the throne room, and similar scenes occupied prominent positions in other Assyrian palaces; they were also embroidered on the royal clothes. Dimensions Height: 99.06 centimeters Width: 157.48 centimeters The British Museum - London ______________________________________________________ المادّة: جبس التقنيّة: نحت بارز الموقع: تنقيبات القصر الشمالي الغربي، الغرفة بي و اللوح 23 التاريخ: 865-860 ق.م العصر الآشوري الحديث الملكيّة: آشورناصربال الثاني الوصف الملك آشورناصربال يظهر مرّتين، مرتديّا ملابسه الشعائريّة و يمسك صولجانا يرمز للسلطة. و أمامه هناك الشجرة المقدّسة، لربما ترمز للحياة، و هو يعمل وضعية تعبّديّة للإله الموجود داخل قرص مجنّح. الإله، الذي ربما يكون إله الشمس شمش، يحمل حلقة في إحدى يديه، و هو رمز قديم في بلاد ما بين النهرين يرمز لمنح الإله للملوكيّة. و هناك أرواح حامية على الجانبين خلف الملك. هذا المشهد المتناظر، مليء بالرمزيّة، كان موضوعا خلف العرش الملكي. و كان هناك واحدة أخرى مقابل الباب الرئيسي لغرفة العرش، و مشاهد مشابهة تحتل مواقعا بارزة في قصور آشوريّة أخرى, كما نراها تطرّز الملابس الملكيّة الأبعاد الإرتفاع: 99.06 سم العرض: 157.48 سم المتحف البريطاني - لندن
