Math from everywhere: The words mathematics and arithmetic are Greek, algorithm and algebra are Arabic, while calculus was invented in Europe. The word calculus is obviously Latin, meaning the kind of pebble or bead used on an abacus. Abacuses in turn are originally Egyptian or possibly Mesopotamian. In India, The Apastamba Sulba Sutra contains a proof of the Pythagorean theorem. In China the Pythagorean theorem was known as the Shang Gao Theorem (商高定理). Both the Indian and Chinese proofs might predate Pythagoras. ncc.phinf.naver.net/ncc02/2010/10/15/25/1.jpg
