Mathematics is a matter of spirit. Instead of gawking at flowers of life, we should see the infinitudes enfolded in geometrical space. Riemann extols, like many of the great geometers and metaphysicians before him, that everything is not out there, but -in here-. Geometry is not the stage on which reality unfolds... it is the shape of the action itself. Space and time are transcendental: they represent the forms of being revealing itself. Because of this we are wont to call physics of spirit, rather than of matter. This lecture (with pretty graphics!) explains Riemanns Habilitation Dissertation, which is part of the the thread, or rather the matrix of space, of metaphysical mathematics. Here the idea of the fish not knowing the concept of water stops being an analogy. If we wish to represent the form of our motion and project it onto a space which can describe it, we can never be sure that this is the only projection possible. What appear to be round from our point of view, might be totally flat from another perspective... or curved in all sorts of twisted ways. We need to bend our minds just a little bit to be able to twist it around the curvature of the world that lives inside of us.
