Matthew 14:16 But Jesus said unto them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat. 17 And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes. 18 He said, Bring them hither to me. 19 And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude. 20 And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full. 21 And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside women and children. Sometimes the math just doesnt work out in a way that makes sense to us. Sometimes its hard to reconcile the need we face with the resources available. But those are the times when we have to remember that its not about the math, its about The One who invented math. Those are the times to remember that Its never about having the right resources to reconcile a need, no matter what that need is, and its really not even about the need. Its always about The One who reconciles all things to Himself for His own glory and, by natural (or supernatural) process, for the good of His children. I dont think Jesus fed the multitude with 5 loaves and 2 fishes because they were hungry. I think He was giving His inner circle an opportunity to look past the circumstances and step out in faith to meet a need and just do what He said to see for themselves what the results would be. After all, He was preparing them to spread the Gospel when he was no longer with them physically. Our American version of Christianity often reduces the Gospel down to a self-help philosophy. We seek the Kingdom of God because we think that process will lead to personal earthly gain. We seek abundant earthly life, and not abundant eternal life. We think in earthly terms, so the so the solutions to problems have to make earthly sense to us. Our bodies are made from the earth, so our nature is to desire and seek the things of the earth. But we are Kingdom people, suffering death to those things and resurrected to live eternally in the Kingdom, right? THAT is the thing: In order to enjoy and partake in His resurrection, we have to partake in his sufferings and death. Imagine what the world would look like if we would just start doing what He says... because we believe Him and we love Him... Because He loved us first... and for no other reason... no matter what. Pray for God to bring change in this country. Pray for the change to start with us. And lets start by changing the way we think.
