Matthew 20:28 says, “The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve and to give His life a ransom for many.” Jesus said it Himself: He came to serve, not to be served. He set the bar for us and became our example on what we are supposed to do. He modeled the service he expects from His followers. Jesus was a positive example everywhere He went. He taught people the Word of God; He fed the hungry; He prayed for those in need;. He never stopped spreading the Good News of God’s Kingdom and since we are His followers, can we do any less? In Matthew 5:13-16 Jesus said, “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” Let’s recognize that our life has either a positive or a negative effect on everyone we come into contact with. Let’s take advantage of every opportunity to be of service to those around us. Live close to God and realize that sometimes He gives us great opportunities to lift others up and be of service to them. Live responsibly and stay in close fellowship with God. Look for opportunities to help someone else by a word of encouragement, a smile, meeting a need or offering to pray with someone. Follow the example of Jesus and let your light shine by reaching out to others. Bless those around you. Be a servant for Christ. You’ll end up being blessed beyond measure!
